THOMAS A. WALSH

Thomas A. Walsh is an Emmy Award winning Production Designer whose career spans feature films, IMAX, documentaries, episodic series, and Broadway. 

A producer of multiple documentaries and now a director, Thomas recently announced the launch of his company, Tre Luna Design’s first production, “Ben Carré: A Parisian in Hollywood.” A feature-length documentary about motion picture’s premier silent-film Art Director and Scenic Artist, Benjamin Jules Carré. 

Thomas originated the Disney-ABC series “Desperate Housewives” Nominated many times; Thomas is the winner of the Emmy Award for the CBS-TV series “Buddy Faro.” Feature film credits include “A Hand Maids Tale,” “A Gathering of Old Men” and “The Majestic.” Thomas last off-Broadway design work was for the new American play, “Annapurna.” He designed the Tony Award winning production of “Children of a Lesser God” and the critically acclaimed original productions of Luis Valdez’s, “Zoot Suit.”

Thomas served as President of the Art Directors Guild (ADG) for 10 years. The ADG represents 3000 national and international designers and artists active in Production Design/Art Direction and its affiliated crafts. He is the founding chair of the ADG’s Archives an its annual Nominated Designer’s Oscar Panel. And is the Co-chair of the ADG’s Production Design Initiative for emerging designers, and its highly regarded Art Directors Film Society. 

He is a member of the United Scenic Artists (USA), New York. Other professional affiliations include the Designers Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS). 

Thomas was the initiating partner in the creation of the publications, “Designs on Film: A Century of Hollywood Art Direction” (Harper Collins) and “The Art of the Hollywood Backdrop” (Regan Arts). He has lectured and lead charettes about production design nationally and internationally. He founded the ADG Archives’ Backdrop Recovery Project and the current museum exhibition of historic MGM & 20th Century Fox backdrops.  Other passion pursuits include the founding of the Michelson Cinema Research Library.
